My name is Katie Hamstead. I am a 1986er and proud! I was born and raised Aussie, lived in Arizona for a while, and now I live in Idaho with my two daughters.

I love storytelling and have since I was very young. I remember as a child my dad would tell my sister and I bedtime stories about grand adventures through the bush which probably prevented sleep more than put us to sleep! But it was the seed of creativity I needed to start telling my own stories.

My very first story - other than little kid single page narratives - was The Phantom which I wrote when I was twelve. I loved The Silver Brumby series as a young girl and this first story feeds from that. It's the humble beginnings of my desire to be a writer.

After that I became distracted for a few years with boys, sports, music, church, the usual teenage girl stuff, but wrote a few scenes for stories during exams when I got bored. (My mind wanders easily).

Soon after high school, I began several other projects, but with hitting the singles and mingles scene, as well as work and university, my writing ended up on the back burners.

After I married and fell pregnant, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands. Being an immigrant, my legal status stated I couldn't work until I moved from the fiancé visa to my temporary permanent resident card, then when I fell pregnant no one wanted to hire me. So to preserve some of my old handwritten stories, I sat and typed them out. My passion for writing reignited, and I soon wrote the Kiya Trilogy.

So after some querying, Kiya was signed originally by Curiosity Quills Press. The day Kiya: Hope of the Pharaoh (book 1) released, I received a contract for Branded. Since then, I now have several books available. I love this path I find myself on, and hope to continue to grow and progress on it.
