Kiya: Hope of the Pharaoh release and Blog Hop!

Today marks the release of my debut novel, Kiya: Hope of the Pharaoh. You can now buy it on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Kobo! To celebrate I am having a blog hop with some awesome prizes!
I need to give the credit for this idea to my fellow Curiosity Quills author, Eliza Tilton, because I was stumped! But I loved this idea the instant she suggested it. All you need to do on your blog is write about something Egyptian. Anything, the Nile, a city, a person, the gods or whatever else you want before the 5th May. At the bottom include a link back to here using the hieroglyph picture below which says Kiya, and don't forget to include the linky. Then, on the 6th, go to all the blogs on the list and find SIX hieroglyphs. The first person to decode it and send it to me will win the first prize and the second will win the runner up prize. Final Countdown

So there's only a few days left until Kiya's release, so I thought I'd put my thoughts and feelings out there about this.

• I am soooooooo beyond reason excited! This is my baby and she's going out into the world for everyone to see. I've worked so hard on her, primped her, polished her, spent hours researching her and all the tears of querying but finally she's made it to the end of her journey. I constantly say my MC, Naomi, is my best friend and the person I want to be, and I truly hope everyone else loves her as much as I do.

• Paranoid. What if everyone hates book? What if every reviewer that looks at it slams it? What if I'm kidding myself and I actually suck? I know CQ wouldn't have signed it if they didn't think it was worth their time and wouldn't sell, but self doubt is still seeping through. Human nature I guess.

• No one actually buys it. So yes, I do need money. Signing it instead of simply emailing it to all my friends is kind of part of that. I have a family, my husband works part time while going to school and I work too while trying to raise our kid, so the extra money is definitely a plus. But more than anything, I hope people buy it because they want to read it as much as I loved writing it.

• Pirating. I watch my fellow CQ authors talk about this all

I know realistically it's going to happen, I just hope for every pirated copy, there will be two people who legitimately buy it so my hard work and time isn't wasted, and again, people who enjoy it are actually showing me their love for it by helping support me and my family.

Review - The Shadow King

So I have recently signed up with NetGalley, and my first book for review that I requested was The Shadow King, due for release Jun 4th. It's a non-fiction book based on Tutankhamen and Howard Carter's discoveries surrounding the uncovering of Tut's untouched tomb.
This book was right up my alley, as anyone who has been following my own book along to publication would know. 18th Dynasty Egypt is something I've read A LOT about, and this only enhanced that. It focuses mostly on modern day research and technology which is being used to unravel the story of Tut's life.
If you have the patience for non-fiction, like me, you will find this fascinating. It doesn't use intense technical mumbo jumbo, so is understandable, but it's not a glossy picture book with history explanations attached along beside it. It's a real history book, and I loved it!

ANZAC Day. Lest We Forget

In the great southern nations of Australia and New Zealand, April 25th marks a significant holiday of remembrance. ANZAC Day. Let me tell you the story of this day.

During WWI, a battle was fought between the Aussie/New Zealand troops and the Turkish troops. It began on February 19, 1915, with a naval assault by Commonwealth forces to try to push their way to Constantinople. When this failed, a land attack was planned. This attack would include the newly formed Australia and New Zealand Army Corps, aka the ANZAC's.
The plan was that the British and French forces would start at the tip of the peninsula, and the ANZAC's would cut them off in their retreat off of it.
On April 25th 1915, the battle began. Except, the ANZAC's were dispatched on the wrong beach! They faced sheer cliff faces and exposure as the Turks reigned their fire down on them. But the ANZAC's pushed through and dug in on the beach at Gallipoli, now known as ANZAC Cove.
Despite the fierce efforts of the Turks to push them off the beach, the big hearts of these men held their ground in adverse conditions, where the odds were against them. They threw assault after assault at the ANZAC's as the British and French troops pushed up from the south in vain, but all they managed to achieve were high numbers of casualties. The ANZAC's were hearty, and refused to go anywhere.
After months of fighting, the British and French forces knew they couldn't take Gallipoli, so organized a retreat beginning December 7th 1915. As the ANZAC's left the cove, they set their rife's up to hand made auto triggers to cover their retreat. Even as they left, they remained defiant and continued to fight.
The last troops to leave Gallipoli departed Jan 9th 1916.
Although the battle at Gallipoli was won by the Turks, the legend of the ANZAC is remembered more than the victory. These two tiny colonial nations fought back and held their ground, earning them the nickname  "Diggers" because they dug in and held on at all costs until they were told to leave.
These men fought and died for my country and the freedoms we are blessed to have, the freedoms paid for with their blood, and many others who followed in WWII, and other military campaigns. They set a standard of bravery, courage and defiance. They are the foundation of our national identity. May their blood sacrifice never be wasted, and may their spirits live in our heart so they never die. Lest We Forget.

Ever Review Blog Tour

EVEEEEEEEEEEER...

For a start, I love this cover. That was honestly the first thing that attracted me to it because yes, I'm fickle like that. It just says so much. The love Ever has for Frankie, but he's gone, she can't even touch him.

So anyway. Ever begins with a brokenhearted girl who has the misfortune that she can't move on because her source of heartbreak haunts her, literally. But the breathtaking Toby moves in next door and sweeps her off her feet. She has several breathtaking moment with him as they fall for each other, much to her ghostly companion's disgust.

I enjoyed this book. There were a few things I saw coming, but not the end! Ever has been stuck in a pretty sucky situation, and in this story she finds herself finally able to start moving on with some great passionate moments. I don't want to give any spoilers but, I'm definitely rooting for Toby!
I'm definitely looking forward to EVADE to find out how she resolves the even worse position she finds herself in by the end.
