Petty Little Lives
Release Date: 08/18/15
Limitless Publishing

Summary from Goodreads:
The only thing cousins Sapphire Hope and Roxanna Revolution have in common is they don’t want to spend the summer at their aunt’s Iowa farm.

Sapphire is an entitled L.A. rich-girl…
Spoiled by her Oscar-winning mother and a CEO father, Sapphire thrives on the lifestyle of a jet-setting socialite and aspiring model. She has no interest in rural life, or the strange cousin who seems to want to be her friend. About the only thing even remotely interesting about the farm is the good-looking intern at her aunt’s veterinary clinic, Dawn Matthews. He might do as a summer distraction.

Roxanna is a sensitive loner…
She spends her time playing guitar and posting videos for her YouTube subscribers, but at least at her aunt’s, nobody knows what she’s hiding. Since her secret drove her boyfriend away, she could use a few friends, but Sapphire clearly isn't interested—and even less so when Dawn prefers Roxanna's company over hers.

When Roxanna's secret comes out, Sapphire, Roxanna, and their friends are forced to view their lives from a new perspective and face choices they never thought they’d have to make.

Can friendship and new love help them overcome physical and emotional challenges and learn what’s really important? Or will old habits and attitudes refuse to die?

Excerpt:
Sapphire
“Welcome back, Miss Hope,” Albus says, in his old man voice.
He is one of the butlers my mother hired because she cannot be bothered to open doors on her own. Albus started working for our family when I was twelve years old. Back then I always called him Dumbledore because his name just calls for it.
“Your mother is in the living room.”
“I’m sure she is,” I say and cross the entrance hall. The ceiling, which is more than four stories above my head, is vaulted and an almost cliché looking chandelier hangs off of it. The floor is white marble and so clean you could eat off it.
“Sapphire!”
I hear my mother call out. I had hoped she wouldn’t notice I was home. Lord knows the house is big enough so that we would never have to see each other if we wanted. I look over my shoulder to Albus who just shrugs and then walks off somewhere.
“Hello, Mother,” I say upon entering the living room which is, to say the least, ginormous. Expensive furniture, high ceiling, and floor-to- ceiling windows as far as the eye can see. They allow you to look over the entirety of our garden.
Mother stands up from the sofa and walks over to me. Her hair has the same shade of blonde, but it’s an inch or two shorter than mine. Judging by her clothes, I’d say she spent her morning and early afternoon at a meeting of some sorts. Good for her. I don’t really care.
“You were shopping, again?” Her voice sounds dismissive, defensive almost.
“Yes.” I raise the bags I’m still carrying slightly and arch an eyebrow. Aren’t these proof of that? “Ashley and I went to Rodeo Drive. I left a note in the kitchen.”
“And where did you get the money from?”
“Relax, Mother, I still have more than enough from what you and Dad gave me.” For my eighteenth birthday my parents gave me a decent amount of money, because I’m sure they either couldn’t be bothered to get me an actual present or they forgot about my birthday all together.

EXCERPT:

"Don't let your tears flow," she insisted passionately from the screen. I glanced up and saw Roch and Nikole embracing while the KGB closed in on them. Slowly, a crescendo of brass arose as Roch and Nikole fought gallantly to their deaths. The credits began and I glanced at the clock. It was ten.

"What garbage," I laughed aloud, grinning at the thought of meeting Roch Turner the next afternoon. I turned off the television and stretched. Yawning, I walked into my bedroom. After doing one more double-check, I was satisfied I had not forgotten anything. I got ready for bed before climbing beneath my heavy, down comforter and closing my eyes. Sighing contentedly, I thought with excitement about seeing Heather for the first time in six months, skiing in the Rockies, and watching a hit sitcom being filmed. This is going to be the best Thanksgiving ever, I thought happily. pushing images of Rick from my mind.

As I succumbed to the tranquility of slumber, eagerly awaiting a much-needed vacation, I had no idea of the depth and complexity of the situation in which I would soon be enmeshed. I had no idea of the sheer magnitude of the vendetta in which I would find myself, a senseless dispute which began years before my own birth. If I had, I would have ripped my flight itinerary up into a million tiny pieces and stayed in the warm haven of my bed.

COLD AMBITION

"It was my life-long dream to become a private eye. Little did I know that with my very first case, that dream would become a life-threatening nightmare..."

Dalin’s sister provides a new point of view on the pair
Mara torqued the man’s arm higher, forcing him to bend forward. “What do you want? Why were you attacking her?”
Mara?” Dalin’s voice in her head. “Nuwa called for help. Is she…?”
She’s good with her hands,” Mara sent. “We’re safe.”
Less than two minutes later Dalin appeared, running flat out. He slowed as he reached the corner and nodded at Mara, visibly approving of the painful hold she was using on the attacker. He hugged his sister hard.
“Some of the guys are on their way to talk with this gentleman,” he said, giving Nuwa one more squeeze. With no warning, he punched the man in the stomach. The attacker doubled over, making retching sounds.
Mara released the man’s wrist and he fell forward onto both hands with a groan.
Take Nuwa to your aunt’s house. Everyone is waiting there. Please.” Dalin tugged her hood back over her hair. “Be alert. On the double, okay?” He winked at his sister, though a smile only ghosted across his mouth. “Nice work, ladies. Let me know when you get there.”
Nuwa started down the street and Mara jogged a few steps to catch up. The girl increased her pace until she was nearly running.
“Nuwa?”
“I’m fine,” she answered, not sounding fine.
“You seem…upset…” Mara wasn’t sure what to say.
“I’m not like my brother,” she said, “and I always complained when he and Dad made me practice defending myself. So many years practicing and I always felt safe.”
“But I wasn’t,” she said.
“It worked,” Mara said at the same time. Fighting, being attacked, was part of her life on such a deep level that she wasn’t sure how to understand the girl’s shock.
As they turned onto Ansell Street, Nuwa said, “Thank you.”
“For what?” Mara said, truly surprised. “I’m a soldier and I didn’t get a hand on the guy before you dropped him.” Her tone made it sound as though she’d been deprived of a terrifically fun opportunity.
When the girl laughed, it was wobbly, but as she spoke again her voice was stronger. “No wonder my brother likes you. You two are just the same. Oh and I just told him we got here without any other surprises.” She pushed open the door and walked inside.
In the settlements, when a girl said, ‘my brother likes you,’ she meant it in a way specific to teasing, courting, and sometimes, kissing. Given that she had literally nothing to bring to a match, Mara decided Dalin’s sister had misspoken. She must have meant something more like, ‘my brother doesn’t mind you being around even though his mission is technically over.’
During their brief time at the way house, Dalin had been considerate and open and Mara had trusted him with her questions. And even her first few days in Satri he’d been kind, helping her through the swing, checking in through rapport. But just now, the moment when he’d touched her hair, clarified how little they’d connected beyond occupying the same physical space for several weeks.

"They were the poor, the orphaned, the dispossessed. They were the boys that had been sent upstate and came back as heroes"
Author’s Writing Inspiration

My inspiration for The Upstate Boys came when I read an Article in the NY Times about the Arthur G. Dozier school for boys.  The stories of the abuse, neglect and murder struck a cord and I wanted to change the story.

About the Author

Ofer Aronskind was born in Tel Aviv, Israel and came to the United States at the age of six. He grew up in Little Neck, Queens, on the outskirts of New York City. He attended SUNY Albany then took a year off after college where he spent the year in Los Angeles writing screenplays. The following year he came back to NY to attend St. John's University School of Law and graduated in 1989. He went to work at the law firm of Weil Gotshal & Manges as a real estate attorney and worked there until 1997. He now lives in Short Hills, New Jersey with his three sons and is a real estate investor.

Ofer, father of 3 boys, has had a lifelong passion for reading and writing. He began writing his first book, Summer Sleep Away the summer he sent his own sons off to camp for their first time. Ofer spent endless nights sitting at the edge of their beds telling his children stories from his own years in camp. As the boys embarked on their journey they encouraged Ofer to turn his stories into a book… so became Mattie Kleinfeld and the beginning of Ofer’s prolific career.

New Jersey resident Ofer Aronskind remembers what it was like to be 12 years old: the challenges of middle school, making new friends, attending summer camp for the first time, having your first crush. By drawing on events from his life, as well as those of his three teenage sons, he has been able to vividly recreate some of life’s most memorable experiences in his young-adult novels.

Release: Never Forgotten by Stacey Nash (Collective #3)

Published by: HarperCollins
Publication date: September 1st 2015

Synopsis:

Continuing on from Forget Me Not and Remember Me, this is the thrilling third novel in Stacey Nash’s unforgettable series.
Since the strike on Collective territory during Anamae’s rescue, things have taken a turn for the worse. Unprovoked attacks on innocent people have Anamae and her friends fighting day and night to minimize the damage. With hundreds of lives lost, morale amongst the resistance fighters has plummeted. But that’s the least of her worries.
Manvyke still has Anamae’s mom, Annie, secreted away somewhere and after the way they parted, Anamae worries it’s not at her mother’s bidding. Maybe Annie’s disappearance all those years ago wasn’t her choice. But with Manvyke scouring the world, there’s something far more pressing than the need to find Anamae’s mother …
It’s a fight against time to find the other keys before Manvyke. In his hands, the three relics could unlock enough power to reek a much worse havoc than the current issues at hand. If the councillor gets his hands on those keys, civilization will bow down.
THE RACE IS ON.

Excerpt:

We’re too late.

The minute I step out of the alley with my crew of resistance fighters I can tell. Blood, so

much blood everywhere. And the silence. You’d think in the midst of such horror it’d be loud:

people screaming, wailing, crying even. But it’s not. The silence is almost deafening.

My heart constricts like someone tugged at its laces.

We’re too late.

We can only help the survivors now and that’s the horrid truth. On autopilot, I walk then

run to the closest victim. A woman sprawled on the ground, blood covering every inch of her, so

I can barely make out the color of her blouse. She moans when I hold my fingers to her neck,

checking for a pulse.

Not too late for her, thank god.

“I’ve called 911.” Will’s voice echoes through my mind. Even with the lack of inflection

due to the telcom I can hear the sorrow in his words.

“Damn it,” Jax says through the same tech device, “we’re getting later each time.”

And he’s right, we are. More people perish with each attack and all because we can’t

reach them in time to intercept the Collective. I’ve never felt so useless.

The woman groans—a long drawn-out noise like no other I’ve ever heard—and slowly

sound returns to the scene. Moaning, whimpering, noises of pain, and my friends’ voices pitched

low and soothing as we reassure the wounded it’s okay. They’ll be okay. Even though sometimes

we know that they won’t. Like this woman. Each ragged breath now comes a little shorter and

sharper than her last. I hate the damn Collective for stealing people’s lives, but she doesn’t need

to see that.

“I’m here. You’re okay.” I rest my hand on her sticky arm.

Her breath hitches, she gives a last weak heave and she’s gone, her head rolling to the

We are too late.

The saddest thing in this whole mess is that I can’t cry. I’ve seen so much it’s like

nothing’s left in me but hatred. My compassion is drained. I glance around trying to decide

where I’m needed most, but too many dead and wounded lay in the open-air amphitheater that

it’s impossible to know where to turn next. In places, the bodies pile on top of each other, just

lying where they fell.

So much loss and devastation and for what? Because the Collective want to send a

message to us; that they’re in control, that the resistance is hurting more people, not helping.

Somehow I don’t think us backing off will help.

A guy walks toward me, his T-shirt—an advertisement for the main band—a tattered

mess with his bloody shoulder peeking through a gaping hole. His eyes lock on me, but they’re

unseeing, glassed over like he’s retreated inside his mind. He steps over and around those on the

ground as if he knows right where they are without looking.

Hate isn’t a strong enough word for how I feel about the Collective.

I dread the day we might turn up to find one of my friends, like Cynnie or Xane. I’m not

sure how I’d react, but I like to think I won’t see them. That neither of my free-thinking friends

would be involved in something like this, regardless of agent duty.

It doesn’t take long before the wail of sirens fills the air and as the paramedics arrive on

the scene, we’re no longer needed. Jax and Will both appear at my side looking as somber as I

feel. Today we have another person who’s seen too much, left with too little, and has no choice

but to port with us. We can’t leave him for the Collective’s clean up.

Jax takes a look at the ragged, zombie-like guy and says, “I’ll catch a ride with one of the

others.”

I nod, any words I might have had stolen by this day’s horror, then grab my charge and Will to

port us out.

In twelfth century Scotland, it took a half-Gael with a Viking name to restore the clans to their rightful lands. Once an exile, Somerled the Mighty now dominates the west. He’s making alliances, expanding his territory, and proposing marriage to the Manx princess.

It’s a bad time to fall for Breagha, a torc-wearing slave with a supernatural sense of smell.

Somerled resists the intense attraction to a woman who offers no political gain, and he won’t have a mistress making demands on him while he’s negotiating a marriage his people need. Besides, Breagha belongs to a rival king, one whose fresh alliance Somerled can’t afford to lose.

It’s when Breagha vanishes that Somerled realizes just how much he needs her. He abandons his marriage plans to search for her, unprepared for the evil lurking in the shadowy recesses of Ireland—a lustful demon who will stop at nothing to keep Breagha for himself.
