Mrs. Poe. What can I say about this book? It's heart wrenching, sad, mournful, painful and devastating, which is just right for a book based around Edgar Allen Poe. Cullen has definitely done her research and has woven together a heart wrenching tale of betrayal, loneliness, secrets and passion.
The story follows Mrs. Frances Osgood, a poet and children's writer contemporary to Poe. Fanny is heart broken as her husband has disappeared again with one of his rich lady clients while she struggles to pull together the money to keep herself and their two daughters alive.
She meets Poe at a social gathering of great minds ad his wife forms an attachment to her, soon followed by Poe himself.
This is all based on things that are believed to have happened, and the author uses these two characters' own poetry to weave this tragic tale into her story.
This book will linger with me for days. It's so sad, and so painful I can't not think about it. It's so well written, that I wouldn't discourage anyone who has a desire to open their minds to the time or the people involved to read. Bu, I will warn you, it will break your heart!
